Fuel Assistance

If you have a past balance due and need to work out a payment plan please check with your provider about arrearage programs. These programs sometimes allow for a portion of your over due balance to be “forgiven.”

Citizens Energy Heat Assistance Programs
Services: reduction in utility payments for those facing financial hardships. There are no strict income limits and no citizenship requirements. You do not need proof of immigration status.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Services: Government program–help low-income families and individuals pay their heating bills during the winter.

Services: MassSAVE offers energy tips and information about free home energy assessments, energy-saving products, and loans, rebates, and other incentives for energy-saving home improvements.

National Grid and NSTAR
Services:  Serve primarily residential costumers with balances over $300 that have been due for at least 60 days.

Services: gives short-term financial assistance to low-income families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Department of Public Utilities
Services: Provide lower rates for gas, electricity and telephone for low-income families.Prevent the shutoff of gas of senior households, a low-income family with an infant, someone with a serious illness, or a tenant with utilities included in the rent.
