The Amherst Survival Center is a community center where we provide resources that help people to meet their basic needs. We provide free meals, free groceries, and fresh food distribution, as well as a free health clinic and a resource center. We have services for those experiencing homelessness, such as laundry, showers, and a warming/cooling center with computers.
Community Meals: Available in the dining room: Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri 12-2:30pm
To-go meals available outside: Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri 12-3pm
Food pantry: Free groceries (14+ days’ worth) for all household members including produce, frozen meat, milk, eggs, and shelf stable goods. Open to everyone in our service area.* No income cap. No citizenship questions (our services are not subject to the Public Charge rule). No photo ID required. Can register and take food home in the same day.
*The Food Pantry is available to residents of Amherst, Belchertown, Deerfield, Granby, Hadley, Leverett,
Pelham, Shutesbury, South Deerfield, South Hadley, Sunderland, Ware and Whately,
and to those who are experiencing homelessness.
Two full pantry shops per year available for those who live out of area.
Free Medical Clinic: Mondays 12-2pm – Open to all (ages 2+). No insurance, no appointment necessary.
School and camp physicals for children available.
Health Insurance Navigator: A representative from Musante Health Center will assist with Mass Health
insurance paperwork on Mondays. Call or see online calendar for times.
SNAP Sign-Up: A representative from Community Action will be here every other Friday 12-3pm
to assist with applications. Call or see online calendar for dates.
Salvation Army vouchers: limited to once every 6 months per household, distributed Tues and Thurs 2-3pm.
Eliot Homeless Service: A representative from Eliot Homeless Services will be onsite Thursdays 12-2pm.
