The Carlson Recovery Center Detoxification Program provides medically monitored detoxification services for individuals withdrawing from alcohol and other drugs. The program offers both a detoxification component, for safe withdrawal from alcohol and drugs, and a treatment component of care. The treatment component is based on sound recovery principles, with a focus on assisting participants to develop a plan to continue their recovery after discharge.
The program is staffed by a multidisciplinary team, which includes Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Recovery Specialists and Counselor/Case Managers. Providers also include a Medical Director, who is board-certified in Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Addiction Medicine, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. The program has both English and Spanish-speaking staff.
The program uses an individualized approach, in that each participant receives medical treatment based on his/her specific withdrawal from substances. As people recover, they work with program counseling staff to develop an aftercare/continuing care plan based on their own individual strengths, needs and desires.
The Detoxification Program has 30 beds and it operates and admits individuals seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The average length of stay varies between three to seven days, depending on individual circumstances.
The Dual Diagnosis Track), a specialized component of the Detoxification Program, provides detoxification services for people with both mental illness and substance use disorders, who are insured by the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership, and who meet the criteria for Massachusetts Department of Mental Health services. Appropriate individuals for this track have both addiction and mental health diagnoses, but do not require a locked facility. In addition to the group programming and individual counseling that is part of the Detoxification Program, these individuals receive enhanced detoxification services, including psychiatric evaluation by the Psychiatrist or Clinical Nurse
The Carlson Recovery Center Day Treatment/Intensive Outpatient Program is an ambulatory substance abuse program which provides short-term, non-residential treatment for individuals needing more than once-a-week outpatient therapy. In this way, the program operates as a step-down from Detoxification Program services, other inpatient programs and residential substance abuse programs. The program also operates as a step-up from weekly outpatient treatment.
The Day Treatment/Intensive Outpatient Program is a group-centered program, where individuals work together to maintain sobriety. Care is highly individualized, depending on clinical need and participant desires, and participants attend three to five days a week for three to six weeks.
